WRITING A BUSINESS PLAN COMPANY SUMMARY

When writing this summary in your business plan, you should also describe the company's CURRENT status, its strategies, and its plans for the future.

Your business plan should
address questions like...

Does Your Business Have
A HISTORY In The Business?

Readers will first want to know about the history of your business. If you have an existing business, briefly describe when and by whom the business was started and any MAJOR changes that have occurred in the business.

If this is a new business, highlight some of the reasons WHY you would like to start this specific business.

What's The Legal Form
Of Business Ownership?

Is your business a sole proprietorship, partnership, or corporation? What is the legal name of your business and who are the principal owners?

The legal form of your business will affect who PAYS the TAXES and is LIABLE for the debts of the business.

 Where Can Your Business Be
Found And What Kind Of
Facilities Do You Have?

Discuss where your business is located and what facilities you have.

You may wish to include...

  • the company address,

  • a physical description of your site,

  • the size of your facility,

  • your equipment, and

  • your lease arrangements.

Do You Have An
Internet Web Site?

If you have a WEB presence that contributes to company sales, investors will also be interested in your Web site.

Your plan should include information about...

  • Web site's URL,

  • monthly traffic stats,

  • Web sales, and

  • any listings in major directories.

In addition to the above, be sure to write about how the location of your business adds to the SUCCESS of the business.
